Publisher Luckycalf and developer Geo Seed Games have released a new gameplay trailer for Never Wither, an isometric open world survival game that folds creature collecting into real time action RPG combat. The pitch that sets it apart: you don’t just capture creatures, you inhabit them, borrowing their bodies and their skills for fighting, building and getting around. A free demo goes live on October 20, during Steam Next Fest, and it supports online co-op.
Don’t tame them. Become them.
Survival games with monster collecting have settled into a formula. You catch the creature, you assign it to a farm plot or a fight, and then you watch from a safe distance while it does the work. Never Wither takes a different route.
You play a Gardener, a servant of the World Tree, on a continent called Edda that is rotting from the inside. A corruption spreading out of the tree’s roots has turned the local wildlife hostile, and your job is to cleanse it. Purified creatures join you, which is standard enough. What is not standard is what happens next.
Instead of commanding a companion, you step into it. Every species comes with its own kit. Wolf Warriors handle mobility and fast attacks. Stone giants tear up trees and swing them as weapons. Mudballs turn dirt into farmland, which is less exciting in a fight and considerably more useful when you are trying to feed a base. Geo Seed Games is promising hundreds of distinct skills across dozens of species, plus rare variants with unusual appearances and traits.
The practical effect is that your character build is not a talent tree. It is a roster of bodies you swap between depending on the job in front of you: one for boss damage, one for hauling, one for climbing terrain you cannot otherwise reach. Abilities from different companions can be combined, so there is room to specialise rather than just collect.
That is the promise, anyway. Whether swapping forms feels fluid in practice or turns into menu management is exactly the sort of thing a demo answers, and we are about to find out.

Building, bosses and co-op
The other half of the game is more familiar territory. You gather resources, craft equipment and consumables, and grow a temple, the Gardener’s homestead, from a rough camp into a working settlement. Creatures pull their weight here too, farming and building on your behalf.
Three regions are planned for launch: Verdant Valley, a river lowland; the Plateau; and the Snow Mountains. A Dark Forest and a volcanic region are slated for later updates. Each biome brings its own wildlife, resources and bosses, and bosses are worth beating for more than loot, since they unlock new abilities.
Combat is real time and isometric, built around dodges, positioning and timing rather than stat checks. None of it is locked to single player. Never Wither is designed as a multiplayer sandbox with co-op, clans, territorial competition, optional PvP and custom servers for groups that want their own rules. The October demo already has online enabled, so you can bring friends from the start.

When you can play it
Never Wither ran a small closed playtest at the end of May: three days, single player only, one region, 19 collectible creatures, four bosses, and roughly three to five hours of content. The October build opens that up considerably.
Steam Next Fest runs October 19 to 26, and the Never Wither demo is scheduled to go live on October 20. It is free, open to everyone, and covers Verdant Valley, the same starting region from the playtest. Collect companions, build a base, craft gear and take on bosses, this time with other players. The developers say lighting, water and audio have all had a pass since May.
The full game is headed to PC via Steam, with a buy to play model and no subscription. Never Wither is due in 2026, though a firm date has not been announced. If V Rising, Valheim, ARK or Palworld ate a few hundred hours of your life, this is worth a wishlist while you wait.
