Fallout 76’s latest update, The Slasher, has arrived, and it brings a cult of fanatics, a returning horror icon and two heavily requested community features to Appalachia.
A Cult of Fanatics Stalks Appalachia
Chaos has spread across the wasteland: bodies strewn across Appalachia, sounds of maniacal laughter echoing through the woods, and reports of murderers wearing clown masks invading local settlements. There are even rumors the events could mark the return of The Pint-Sized Slasher himself.
Unlike most major updates, the story rolls out over the weeks following release. According to the release notes, Wastelanders should expect in-game updates from The Debunker Radio on what is happening in the world and what they should do next, starting with the “Breaking News” broadcast station in the Pip-Boy.
Legacy Seasons and Unique Item Crafting
The update introduces Legacy Seasons, letting players earn rewards from past seasons they may have missed. Legacy Seasons use the same ticket pool as the normal season, so how tickets are spent is up to the player. The first is “Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in Cold Steel,” running the full length of the season. A player vote selected “Season 10: Red Rocket ‘Across America’ Presents: The City of Steel” as the next Legacy Season, arriving alongside the Winter update.
Unique Item Crafting is the other long-requested feature. Unique weapons and armor can now have their Legendary Mods changed and a fourth Legendary Mod added. Examples include The Gutter’s poison damage, Crushing Blow’s plus 10% damage per crippled limb on a target, and Disorderly Conduct’s plus 20% attack speed. Workbench crafting costs and other systems also changed.
Blood Moons, Fish and Season 26
Season 26: Beware The Blood Moon offers rewards inspired by the upcoming spooky season. New Seasonal Fish arrive on September 22, with Captain Raymond leaving a note of clues to their locations, plus new seasonal food recipes to craft.
The patch notes also detail changes to unique weapon effects, from the Old Guard’s plus 10% deflect chance to the Meteoritic Sword’s Radicool perk. Night Light ignores time-of-day requirements on perks, while Kingfisher gains plus 10% damage per Local Legend challenge completed.
