Silent Hill: Townfall will launch on September 24, Konami Digital Entertainment and Annapurna Interactive announced. The release date arrived alongside a PlayStation Blog breakdown from developer Screen Burn Interactive, published September 16, 2026, covering the PS5 features, setting, and story of the upcoming horror title.
Townfall is the first full-length game in the Silent Hill series presented in first person, a choice that narrows what players can see and makes sound a crucial element of the experience. The protagonist, Simon, drifts through cold seas and shores up on the island town of St. Amelia, wandering its empty streets with the single objective of putting things right.
A New Tool and a Different Kind of Silent Hill Town
A device called the CRTV replaces the series’ iconic radio. Players hold it in one hand to scout roaming monsters, search for clues to puzzles, and explore the island. Screen Burn Interactive built the story around narrative-driven puzzles, with players experiencing the plot through cinematics and fragmented puzzles whose scattered secrets gradually reveal a gruesome past. The story centers on what unfolded in St. Amelia and the roles of Simon, Zoe, and Richard, presented as a socially conscious tale about the relationship between the individual and the corporate, and the individual and society at large.
St. Amelia is densely layered with true-to-the-era details drawn from the developers’ own experiences. The town is not as dilapidated as older series entries; it recently went through its own trauma and feels recently lived in. Ray-traced lighting paints scenes with soft ambient light from the fog, while environments react to the player’s flashlight, flashing alarm lights, and the shift from blue-grey fog to a bright red Otherworld filled with pipes, alarm lights, broken buildings, and stained walls.
3D Audio Builds the Nightmarish Soundscape
With the limited field of vision, 3D audio recreates nearby sounds to keep players aware of what they cannot see. Background audio, ambient sound, and the musical score work together. Audio Director Byron Bullock and composer Pilotpriest created custom 3D audio systems that convey depth and space for a nightmarish soundscape on the island.
DualSense Feedback, Triggers, and Motion Controls
The PS5 DualSense controller adds tactile layers to the horror. Haptic Feedback gives sensation to weapon swings, trigger pulls, and nearby enemy footsteps. Adaptive Triggers give each weapon a unique trigger weight. Motion Controls fine-tune the CRTV and provide an intuitive feel for aiming firearms, with all of these options customizable in the menu.
