Ember Lab announced on October 1, 2026, that Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the follow-up to its 2021 debut Kena: Bridge of Spirits, will now launch in 2027. The game was first revealed with an announcement trailer in February. The team needs a bit more time to deliver a game that exceeds the quality of Bridge of Spirits at a much bigger scale.
Why the release moved to 2027
Ember Lab described Kena: Scars of Kosmora as a character-focused linear adventure with a broader and deeper scope than Bridge of Spirits. The world has much to offer players who venture off the beaten path. The 2027 calendar now includes other projects that have shifted to that year, including Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement.
The story and world of Kosmora
Before the events of Scars of Kosmora, Kena studied as a Spirit Guide, a role equal parts warrior and spiritual healer. When the dead cannot move on peacefully, dangerous manifestations of their pain infect the environment, and Spirit Guides fight back this Corruption. Kena is beginning to see her limits. She has helped spirits of the dead but has yet to explore what Spirit Guiding looks like for the living, and she has not focused on her own pain.
Her childhood friend Orfio believes the mysterious island of Kosmora holds the answers they have both been looking for, so Kena sets out to meet him. The ancient Spirit Guides of Kosmora developed their own approach involving the four elements and Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived across Kosmora, each with a guiding Element, before a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. Kosmora is home to multiple living cultures with their own histories, values, and struggles.
Companion and release details
Kena has a new way of getting around the larger world. A crystalline canine companion, an ancient spirit tied directly into gameplay and the origin of the island, is a mount, aids Kena in combat mounted and on foot, and helps solve Alchemystic puzzles. Kosmora’s Spirit Guide temples are dungeon experiences that challenge player skills and pay off with rewards that propel Kena’s adventure.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora releases in 2027 on PS5 in physical and digital formats and on PC in digital form. The 2027 release calendar also includes Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, another action title recently dated. It can be wishlisted now.
