Chasing Carrots updated the experimental branch of Halls of Torment on October 5, 2026. The experimental build contains all changes arriving in the main update on October 22, 2026, and will be updated over the next weeks. Players can join at any time through the Steam library by right-clicking Halls of Torment, selecting Properties, then Game Versions & Betas, and choosing experimental. Halls of Torment is a retro-styled action roguelike in the horde-survival style that Vampire Survivors helped popularize.
New Features and Modes
The Challenge Shrine is a new overworld shrine that offers a weekly challenge run. It unlocks after the player defeats the Lord of Greed in the Vault. Every week all players receive the same hall, game mode, and artifacts. Best score, kill count, time, and ranks are saved. Challenge runs do not award Torment Shards.
Kill Count Mode lets players continue until reaching a stage’s kill target. It unlocks per stage through that stage’s Berserker I quest, with targets from 12,000 to 30,000 depending on stage. In Boglands, Kill Count is default and Timer mode unlocks through Boglands Champion I. Modes are switched at the Shrine of Torment.
The Compendium gets a Stats page with lifetime statistics for kills, damage, playtime, deaths, gold, potions, status effects applied, and more. Records are kept per character, ability, and map. Bottle Chests now spawn and contain bottles. They unlock with the Cupbearer quest Gatherer, which previously gave 2,500 gold.
Balance and Other Changes
All characters move faster, with most gaining about 20% speed and the Norseman about 10%. Characters got mostly damage increases. Enemies have 50% more health, more spawns in base stages, and are faster at the start but speed up less over time. Torment and Agony no longer make enemies faster. Each Torment level adds 10% enemy health and defense, up from 9%. Lords summon more minions. Torment Score rewards fast kills more and late kills less, with gold rewards unchanged.
Affliction, Fragile, and Slow were reworked to be stronger, with stacks that no longer wear off and a higher cap. When an afflicted enemy dies, half its Affliction stacks spread. Slow can reach 70% with no stack limit, and the Cleric’s main weapon no longer applies Affliction by default. Most abilities got large damage boosts. Growth variants of common items gain about twice as much per level, only Rare and better Signets drop, and Health Potions heal twice as much. Players can deselect artifacts at the Shrine of Torment and subscribe to the newsletter. The update includes bug fixes, stability fixes, translations, and Traditional Chinese support.
