Blizzard Entertainment has revealed a brand-new battleground for World of Warcraft: Forever called Battle for the Darkspear Islands. The reveal was published on Blizzard’s official World of Warcraft site on October 7, 2026, and the battleground was also featured in the October 9, 2026 WoW Weekly update, where Blizzard described it as brand-new. The battleground is a 15v15 mode that combines a capture point objective with a flag capture objective, and it is set off the shores of Dustwallow Marsh for players between levels 30 and 60.

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s return to the original World of Warcraft era and is currently in beta. According to Blizzard, the two factions clash across the Darkspear Islands. In Battle for the Darkspear Islands, the Darkspear Raiders fight for the Horde against the Theramore Expeditionary Force for the Alliance.

How Battle for the Darkspear Islands Works

Teams earn points by controlling four capture points across the Darkspear Islands. The more capture points a team controls, the faster it accrues points. A flag waits in the middle of the map. Players can grab the flag and bring it to one of their team’s captured bases to earn more points. The first team to reach 2000 points wins the match.

Queue Locations and Faction Bases

Players can queue for Battle for the Darkspear Islands through a battlemaster in any major capital city. Blizzard also says players can queue at faction bases in the Barrens on Kalimdor. The Horde base for the Darkspear Raiders is located at the Merchant Coast, while the Alliance base for the Theramore Expeditionary Force is located at Northwatch. Portals at these bases take players into the battle.

Reputation Rewards and Quests

According to Blizzard, the faction bases also have vendors with reputation rewards. Each faction has its own reputation track: Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force. Rewards include gear and consumables such as trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, and armor at different reputation thresholds. Players can complete battleground quests by turning in Marks of Honor for reputation quests. At Exalted, players unlock a short questline to earn the faction’s exclusive tabard.

World of Warcraft has seen a busy stretch of news recently. Blizzard brought back the Brewfest seasonal event in September and confirmed that the upcoming The Last Titan expansion returns to Northrend.
