SpaceRocket Games has released a new hotfix for Permafrost, its story-driven survival sandbox currently in Early Access on Steam. The developer said some players have found quests frozen in place, especially when steps are done in a different order or items are picked up early. The team is following player tracks through the story to find where things break and is digging these blockers out one by one. This hotfix clears some of the most reported quest blockers, and Steam invites finally work as long as the joining player is already in the main menu, so nobody has to brave the wasteland alone.

Quest and Multiplayer Fixes

The hotfix addresses several specific quest issues. The quest “Hopes and Dreams” no longer fails to complete. Players who picked up the glitched recording before this hotfix may still have a stuck save, and a fix for those saves is coming in the next patch. The quest “High Frequency” can now be completed while “Hopes and Dreams” is still active. If a quest key is lost, and it is missing from both the inventory and the reward chest, talking to Anna or Skinwalker gives the player a new one. This helps with “Breaking the Radio Silence”, “The Way Home” and “Rise Above the Cold”.

Multiplayer invites are working now. Both “Join Game” from the Steam friends list and Steam chat invites work, provided the joining player has already launched the game and is in the main menu.

UI, Localization, and Stability Improvements

The update also fixes the quest tracker not updating after changing the language. Pinning crafting recipes now works correctly. On the localization side, Chinese text no longer appears bold or oversized in some places. Cold Resistance in the inventory is now translated, and the time unit in building and cooking progress bars is now translated.

For stability, the hotfix fixes a crash related to workbench crafting and improves building preview visuals. The developer said there is more ice to break and recommended checking the Known Issues list for current workarounds. The survival sandbox genre has stayed busy this fall, with Enshrouded adding its Sparkworks logic system ahead of its 1.0 update. Permafrost launched in Early Access on Steam on October 9, 2026, published by Toplitz Productions.
