Total War WARHAMMER III Patch 9.0.4 Fixes Nagash Campaign Issues

Creative Assembly fixed Nagash campaign mechanics in Patch 9.0.4, including Necromantic Energy rules, Grave Call ranks, and Black Pyramid UI.

Creative Assembly deployed Patch 9.0.4 for Total War: WARHAMMER III on October 15, 2026. The update follows the Patch 9.0.3 rework of Nagash’s campaign and the Lore of Nehekhara, and it concentrates on smoothing out the rough edges that appeared after that larger overhaul. The patch is available on PC through Steam.

The most immediate change for Nagash campaign players is that Necromantic Energy from battles now works in more battlefield conditions. Battles fought in a region with an abandoned settlement now award Necromantic Energy. At the same time, the UI now puts a warning icon on battles in regions outside the Land of the Dead where no Necromantic Energy is granted. These two adjustments remove a common source of confusion about when a battle will fuel Nagash’s campaign mechanics.

The update also fixes a Black Pyramid search limitation. The search now matches the names of specific units contained within unit sets and other hover-over text, which makes it easier to find the right node when planning upgrades. Several skills, buildings, and UI elements tied to Nagash receive corrections across the same patch.

What Changes for Nagash Players

Nagash’s economy and recruitment now behave more predictably. Gold resource buildings grant their correct Lord recruit rank bonus when replacing an existing Lord, while the landmark in the Black Pyramid no longer adds one extra Lord recruit rank in the same situation. Pinnacle of Servitude, a Nagash skill, has its recruit rank bonus reduced to 1, but that rank bonus now applies to units recruited via Grave Call. The Grave Call recruitment button is also greyed out when unavailable, with a tooltip that it is only available in the Land of the Dead.

Several campaign progression issues are corrected. A fort settlement gained through confederation or diplomacy no longer has the wrong settlement type and main building. The Lahmian Halls and Halls of Glories Past no longer lock again for Nagash after loading a save when Neferata and Walach had been subjugated. The Nameless no longer remain on the campaign map after dying during Crisis Mode events. Nagash can no longer recruit Regiments of Renown outside his owned territories, and Luthor Harkon’s ship buildings now work after Nagash confederates him.

Book of Nagash interactions also received fixes. Transferring a Book of Nagash now works in some sea regions and open seas. The “Sun-Scorched, Sand-Blistered” node applies flaming attacks correctly to Ushabti (Great Bows), Horse Archers, and Horse Chariots. A Grave Call unlocking node no longer gives access to the wrong units.

Confirmed in Patch 9.0.4 and What Is Still Ahead

Every fix listed in the patch notes is confirmed for Patch 9.0.4, including the campaign, skill, item, UI, VFX, battle, and multiplayer changes. Creative Assembly also confirmed a Patch 9.0.5 release is planned within the next few weeks. That update will include improvements to Victory Objectives. No exact date is given, and the patch notes do not list which Victory Objectives will change.

Some fixes in Patch 9.0.4 apply only to new campaigns. The port building in the Altar of the Horned Rat can now be constructed after the player captures it from the Vermintide faction, but only in new campaigns. Likewise, some Lords no longer lose access to some mounts after confederation, and that fix is also flagged for new campaigns only. Existing saves will not receive those two corrections.

Key Numbers in Patch 9.0.4

For players managing Nagash’s armies and Black Pyramid unlocks, three changes stand out as the most player-relevant numeric or mechanical updates.

System Patch 9.0.4 change
Pinnacle of Servitude Recruit Rank bonus reduced to 1; now applies to units recruited via Grave Call
Screaming Skull Catapults homing Trigger time reduced from 3 seconds to 2 seconds from the Seeker of Kindred Skulls node
Khemri siege map The Black Pyramid of Nagash now looms over the city
Necromantic Energy from battles Now awarded in regions with an abandoned settlement; warning icon appears outside the Land of the Dead

Other battle changes include a fix to the “Incantation of the Skullstorm” Book of Nagash spell, which no longer targets the area behind the target unit, and a fix to Nagash’s deployment-phase movement, which no longer leaves lingering VFX in his previous location. The patch also fixes a crash that could occur after ending the turn during the Nagash End Times crisis, fixes a long freeze during very late game turn ends, and lets the Liche High Priest (Nehekhara) unlock Arcane Conduit.
