GrimKeep Demo: Three Heroes, One Region and What’s Missing

Quick Take

The short version
  • The free demo covers the Outskirts through its boss fight and is scheduled to remain available until October 26, 2026.
  • Players can select The Huntress and The Beast, then unlock The Feral while testing persistent upgrades between demo runs.
  • The November 30 full game is planned to add more heroes, regions, items and systems; GamerHeadlines has not played or benchmarked the demo.

The free GrimKeep demo lets players test Resolution Games’ dice-building roguelite within a deliberately limited slice of the finished game. Players get one region, a boss fight, two immediately selectable heroes and a third to unlock. Several of the systems advertised for the November launch are deliberately absent. Knowing that distinction makes it much easier to decide whether to download the demo before it disappears on October 26.

What the demo includes

Resolution Games says the demo covers the Outskirts from beginning to boss, three heroes including one unlock, and persistent upgrades between journeys. It tests the game’s basic loop while reserving additional characters and regions for launch.

For the full version, the studio lists more than 200 items, over 60 monsters, seven heroes and 30 hero skills, together with additional regions. Its announced systems also include the Crucible, where item abilities can be fused into new combinations, the Ritual, which adds abilities to items, and map shortcuts. Those are full-game promises, not features we can responsibly tell you to look for in the present demo.

If the current build offers fewer ways to mutate equipment than the promotional description suggests, check whether the missing feature belongs to the November version. It would be a mistake to judge the demo as though every future crafting layer were already playable.

Why the dice matter more than luck alone

GrimKeep uses dice-building combat. According to the developer, players assemble item effects and then use dice results to trigger bonuses and multipliers. Dice can themselves have different functions, including effects connected to poison, healing or gold. Combat also requires decisions about defense, stun opportunities and healing.

This creates two distinct decisions to evaluate. Before a roll, decide which items and dice belong in a build and which combinations deserve limited resources. After a roll, react when the result does not favor the combo you hoped to trigger. Preparation and adaptation both shape the system. GamerHeadlines has not measured its balance.

The game’s route-selection map matters for the same reason. Branching rewards and risks can change the quality of a build before a boss encounter begins. An interesting test is whether an apparent weak run still leaves strategic options through defensive items and alternate routes. The store description cannot settle that question; playing the demo can.

Three heroes, but not seven

The demo begins with The Huntress and The Beast and lets players unlock The Feral. Resolution Games describes the characters as having distinct strengths. Try the available heroes to understand whether different starting capabilities meaningfully change the value of the same dice or items. The remaining class paths are reserved for the full game.

The developer also confirms persistent upgrades between journeys. This should not be confused with transferring a demo save into the paid game: the announcement describes progression between demo runs, not a promised demo-to-full-save transfer. No such transfer should be assumed without a later statement from the studio.

Platforms, availability and release

The free demo supports Windows and macOS according to Steam. In a separate developer update, Resolution Games said it had received Steam Deck Verified status for GrimKeep and its demo and that controllers and keyboard/mouse are supported. Hardware compatibility is different from a performance benchmark; GamerHeadlines has not measured frame rate, battery use or stability.

The studio announced November 30, 2026 as the target release date and $14.99 as the US launch price. Its October 9 update said the demo would be available until October 26 for Steam Next Fest. Anyone reading after that date should check the official demo listing before expecting a download button.

Who should try it?

This is a useful candidate for players who enjoy optimizing combinations and don’t mind a run ending before they’ve seen every mechanic. The main reason to sample it is the item–dice interaction and whether the Outskirts boss creates decisions worth repeating with a different hero. Players seeking a complete picture of item fusion, late-game regions or all seven characters will have to wait for the full release.

The demo can establish whether the core dice-building idea appeals to you. Much of the announced progression remains reserved for the full release.
