SCS Software has revealed the 1970 Dodge Charger 500 as one of the featured vehicles in the upcoming Road Trip: RAM & Dodge DLC for American Truck Simulator. The October 30 Steam announcement details the muscle car’s two trim levels, its V8 engine, and its customization options, and it points players to the Steam Wishlist page for the DLC.

SCS Software describes the Charger as a car that captures the spirit of classic American muscle.

Two trims and a V8

The Charger 500 comes in Standard and SE trim levels in American Truck Simulator. The SE version adds a more luxurious interior and a special exterior badge on top of the Standard configuration. Both trims run a V8 engine, and SCS Software says each interior has its own character, with multiple colour options that complement the car’s classic styling.

Customization options

Players can choose from different vinyl roof covers, a variety of exterior and interior colours, and two steering wheel designs. The sliding headlight covers sit over the car’s hidden headlights, and a wide selection of aftermarket parts provides further personalisation. SCS Software calls the covers iconic, though the announcement does not say whether they are animated or fixed in the game.

A history built for NASCAR

The Charger 500 first appeared for the 1969 model year as a performance-focused version of the second-generation Charger, built with improved aerodynamics for NASCAR competition. Its most recognizable features were a flush-mounted rear window that replaced the standard Charger’s recessed glass, and a modified front end designed to improve airflow.

For 1970 the Charger 500 returned with a redesigned grille and front bumper. That year closed out the second generation, and the car’s front end combined a wraparound chrome bumper, a clean grille, and hidden headlights. A long hood, a sweeping roofline, sculpted bodywork, and revised rear styling complete a look SCS Software describes as instantly recognizable.

What the Charger 500 adds

American Truck Simulator keeps adding content across its trucking and Road Trip lines. The recent American Truck Simulator’s British Columbia DLC added seven more cities, and Euro Truck Simulator 2’s Iceland DLC has a November 10 release date. The Charger 500 follows the Road Trip: Ford pack that launched in late September, giving players a classic American car to configure and drive on routes they already own.

The announcement details the Charger 500 ahead of the DLC’s other vehicles. SCS Software says the Charger 500 will be one of several vehicles in the DLC, but it has not named the others or announced a release date or price.
