Square Enix has just hit another jackpot with news pouring in that their latest game Final Fantasy IV: A Realm Reborn has managed to pull in over 1.5 million registered users. What makes this a commendable feat is that the game was released just two months ago and has managed to attain this goal in such a short time.

Developed by Square Enix Product Development Division 3 and published by Square Enix, the game was released on the Playstation 3 and PC on August 27. The game is produced and directed by Naoki Yoshida who has previous experience having served as Director and other overseer roles in the Dragon Quest series of games.

This new iteration of Final Fantasy IV comes in as a flagship MMORPG and is supposed to continue where the original left off in terms of its narrative. This bit of news was first reported by Famitsu; however, it did not state if all those 1.5 million registered users are actively playing the game on a daily basis.

Director Naoki Yoshida, in an exclusive interview at PAX Prime 2013 said that the team’s biggest challenge was to regain the player trust and build on it. However it is interesting to note that upon its release, A Realm Reborn had some issues with its clogged servers but they were fixed soon enough.

The irony of this story comes from the fact that the original Final Fantasy IV met with largely negative reviews when it was released in September 2010. As a result of this devastating bit of news, Square Enix quickly tried to change things up with then President of the company Yoichi Wada announcing that a new team led by Yoshida would take over.

Also the team’s responsibilities included generating newer content for the original game as well as developing a brand new title ironing out all the bugs. A Realm Reborn was initially dubbed as version 2.0 before the team decided on changing its name.

The original Final Fantasy IV was totally panned by critics and fans alike for its broken structure, bad visuals and various other bugs and glitches rendering it almost unplayable. Hence A Realm Reborn was made after completely revamping the original and this one features an all new engine, improved server structures and major overhauls to the gameplay elements and the interface.

Square Enix had decided to publicly end the original Final Fantasy IV and thus it was ceremoniously concluded with a virtual extinction event because of which all player services were disabled. This event is now known as the Calamity in A Realm Reborn’s storyline.

According to the NPD group, A Realm Reborn was one of the top 10 grossing titles in North America for the month of August and has also got numerous favourable reviews from various video game sites since its reintroduction. We suggest you to check it out and leave your thoughts below.
