by GH Staff

Creative Assembly’s dev team give us insights into the creation of the alien in their upcoming survival horror game, Alien Isolation. Published by SEGA, this new Alien game is set to capture the atmosphere of Ridley Scott’s original movie ‘Alien’ and put the player in mortal peril against a vicious alien stalking them. This video explains the creative process that went into designing the alien and the dev team talk about how they want the alien to feel authentic, reacting to player movement and taking paths that aren’t pre-set. The devs make it clear that this will be an enemy that will feel alive, something which can’t be fought against and can only be avoided. All of these details and more in the video below.

Alien Isolation seems to be part of the survival horror revival, where horror games are going back to their roots in the right way. Games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent have reminded us of what makes survival horror so chilling and engaging; the feeling of helplessness against an enemy that is rarely seen. This has been expanded upon by games like Outlast, which mix stealth with survival, utilizing a night-vision camera for a very frightening atmosphere. Alien Isolation feels like a step in the right direction for the brand name and will hopefully be more pleasing to fans than the action-oriented Aliens: Colonial Marines, which many expressed their distaste for. Alien Isolation is expected to launch later in 2014 for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
