Capcom throws a curveball: Ultra Street Fighter IV announced

Capcom’s reputation in gaming has long been established, (Devil May Cry 4 will always be a piece of gaming history, those graphics were all the rage back then) a company that does pretty well in what it’s trying to do: fighting games.

And the newest addition to Capcom’s collection of brutal video games was announced just a few days ago “Ultra Street Fighter IV“, by no other than the executive producer of the Street Fighter games. Yoshinori Ono Let the internet know about his… no, Capcom’s newest fighting game through a tweet. “I want…. no, Capcom wants Game Designer and programer for New Fighting Game. Its location at Tokyo or Osaka Studio.” were his exact words.

Ono confirmed Street Fighter V is still not in development (after announcing it’ll probably be finished in 2018) and after some rifling and snooping in his Twitter feed, (boy, he really likes his tweets) we found out it’s actually because he’s low on budget and staff. Why?

Because he wants to focus on Ultra Street Fighter IV now! Well, this makes for an interesting turn of events. Ono’s newest game just might be a lot better than his predecessors if he’s putting so much time and effort into it. Although, if Ono doesn’t hit a home run with his newest game, not only did we lose Street Fighter V, we also got excited for nothing.

Though, assuming Ono knows what he’s doing wouldn’t be such a stretch, from what we’ve heard so far; Ultra Street Fighter IV will feature new animations, (skills and combos) five new characters, six new stages and a lot of gameplay tweaks. I’m pretty much sold.

Anybody new to Ono’s games should know he’s not looking to make the game of the century. He’s not trying to lather anybody with wannabe plot or statements about his amazing graphics, either. Ultra Street Fighter IV is just what it sounds like. A game that retains the simple (yet loved) format, a controlled pleasure if you will.

And even a few days after the Tweet that set Street Fighter fans everywhere on fire has been published, Capcom itself still didn’t say anything about, well, anything. We could probably expect an official announcement sometime soon though; now that the internet beans have already been spilled, what’s stopping them from sharing some juicy details?

And if you’re really curious, small scraps of information can be dug up in Ono’s Twitter feed (though we guarantee it won’t satisfy the thirst to know more, it’s too strong!). Examples can be found herehere and here.
