[dropcap size=dropcap]R[/dropcap]umor has it that the next installment of the Fallout series, Fallout 4, was officially presented behind closed doors at this year’s E3 convention in Boston. Of course, Bethesda officials did not confirmed the rumor and we have no reasons to believe it. According to some bloggers and Fallout fans, Bethesda Softworks would have presented a 37 seconds video of Fallout 4 and some information regarding the future of the title in particular and the game series in general.
We know for a fact however that they have shown some info on The Elder Scrolls Online, The Evil Within and Wolfenstein: The New Order. They have not mentioned anything about or related to Fallout 4 which is supposed to be in production from January 2011. It was rumored however that a small team worked on developing the Fallout 4 title, while the rest of Bethesda’s developers were preoccupied with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While the first one is still in the development phase and Skyrim was already released, we can only hope that since February 2013, the developers working on the elder Scrolls last title were reassigned and that Fallout 4 has now the support of the whole team. If this information proves to be true, the game should enter the testing phase as soon as possible.
What do we know for sure about Fallout 4?
Not much. However, we know what should be considered as essential for most of the fans of the series: the supposed official release date and the game setting.
We know that Fallout 4 will be released no later than in October 2015 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS4. The game will be announced sometime before E3 2014. Rumor has it that at the present date, it is developed in 55%. There will be no multiplayer, but the producers are thinking about implementing a cooperative mode.
We also know that the Fallout 4 story will take place in Somerville, Cambridge, and Arlington. The main setting will be a post-apocalyptic Boston, not available though at the start of the game.
Development
In January 2013, actor Erik Dellums, one of the Fallout 3 voices hinted via a Twitter message that his character, Three Dog, would be returning. “There may be more of the Dog coming! Fingers crossed!” he said. His Tweet became shortly the number one news on the Internet among Fallout fans. Later, he suggested that Bethesda officials have given their permission to release the tease. It was obvious that everybody interpreted his statement as an official sign that Fallout 4 is in development and it will be soon unveiled to gamers from all around the globe.
