Microsoft Announces the Release of Xbox One in 26 Regions

by GH Staff

Microsoft has been quiet about when they will release their new Xbox One in major European territories, as well as, Japan. But now Microsoft has announced they will expand the next generation console into 26 additional regions: which includes most of Europe, as well as, distinct Asian territories. Now more information about the prices and specific release dates will be announced at the end of April; however, the given timeframe for this expansion is September 2014.

The Playstation 4 has not been dominating the Xbox One as originally thought; yes, the Playstation 4 has sold over 6 million copies worldwide, but Sony’s console also launched in over thirty countries. Xbox One will certainly have to play ‘catch up,’ but Microsoft is only behind by less than three million consoles: which makes the idea of ‘closing the gap’ a reality. But again, it will be hard for Microsoft to beat out Sony in Japan, but it is possible in the European territories. Now, add this expansion with the recent release of Titanfall and this possibility becomes even more evident. For instance, because of Titanfall the sales of Xbox One in the United Kingdom doubled: the UK’s Xbox One sales increased by 96 percent and 70 percent of these sales was the Titanfall bundle. On top of this, Microsoft corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi stated, “[with the release of Titanfall] we saw the highest number of hours logged on Xbox Live since the launch of Xbox One.”

Now though there were exclusives available at launch, Titanfall was the first major AAA exclusive for the Xbox One; but the sales for Microsoft’s next generation console could ‘cool off’ in the coming months. Also, Infamous: Second Son could have the same sales effect on the Playstation 4; so for now we will have to wait and see if the Xbox One will threaten the Playstation 4’s lead. However, with its release in these 26 additional countries it is possible:

  • Argentina
  • Belgium
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • India
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • Korea
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Russia
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Singapore
  • Slovakia
  • South Africa
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • United Arab Emirates
