Dragon Fin Soup

Long-time friends and veterans in the game development industry now known as Grimm Bros studios have released new information on their debut title: Dragon Fin Soup. The project has been ongoing for twelve months between a few small indie development teams, and is described as being “part roguelike and part classic console RPG, with a persistent world and story,” by the game developer. Dragon Fin Soup will offer two distinct styles of gameplay for the player to choose from: your classic Story Mode, which focuses primarily on storytelling, character development and progression, and plays like your normal RPG; and an additional Survival Mode which will feature more hazardous consequences such as permanent character death.

Dragon Fin Soup’s development team assures that their upcoming title will be turn-based, where both players and enemies have the ability to attack each-other simultaneously. The game will also carry out night and day cycles, and offer numerous activities such as crafting, gathering, fishing, side-quests, additional story missions and more.

While the world of Dragon Fin Soup is based on a multitude of different fantasies and fables, the content is purely unique in every aspect of the word. The player will be transported to the land of Asura, set on a giant space turtle, with an amnesiac adaptation of Red Riding Hood. But don’t let the similarities fool you, miss Red Robin is not your typical rendition of that childhood fairy tale. Grimm Bros commented that her character is, “cheerful, [but she’s] also a raging alcoholic who makes her living as a bounty hunter and sword for hire.”

The player will be responsible for uncovering Red Robin’s  gruesome past throughout the game as she becomes reacquainted with the world of Asura.

If you would like to see further improved performance for the tactical RPG, Grimm Bros have made Dragon Fin Soup accessible on Kickstarter to rally donations to fund their product’s extra features. Of course, you’ll be given in-game (and some out-of-game) rewards depending on how much you pledge.

Here’s the alpha trailer released on Mar. 19, 2014.
