It’s been a while since PS4 users have received a system update yielding tangible developments upon the console’s functions, so it’s nice to see that Sony has announced a patch which will bring a range of exciting new features to our systems within the next few weeks. In short, after having downloaded the update, you’ll be able to stream gameplay on Twitch in 720p, capture gameplay via HDMI, and create cinematic masterpieces with a new video editing mode for captured gameplay.
In a recent blog post on Playstation’s European site, the upcoming update will essentially, “add a rich video editor with a simple tool to personalise your video clips, and you’ll also be able to export to and save the videos and screenshots you create by pressing the SHARE button to a USB drive. In addition, this update will add an HDCP off option for capturing gameplay via HDMI, a feature we’ve previously said would come after launch.”
In addition, the Twitch HD streaming functionality will be added as a supplementary update, but it should be up and running sooner rather than later. Still no word on when we’ll have control over our wallpapers on the PS4 home screen, though. Come on, Sony.
