Mighty No. 9 Gameplay Footage Shown At GDC 2014

by GH Staff
More Mighty No. 9 gameplay was shown at GDC 2014.

A new gameplay video of the work-in-progress build for Mighty No. 9 was shown yesterday during Comcept’s GDC panel. While it’s essentially footage from a currently incomplete title, the brief trailer gives fans an idea of what to expect in Keiji Inafune’s crowd-funded title.

The latest gameplay video features Comcept’s Keiji Inafune playing through a basic demo-build of Mighty No. 9. While environmental features have not been added, the video shows off some of the movement and action mechanics currently in-place. Based on the GDC 2014 footage, Beck appears to be able to shoot in multiple directions; at one point in the video, Beck is airborne, shooting at an enemy placed diagonally below him. Much like Mighty No. 9’s spiritual successor Mega Man X, Beck is equipped with a light dash that allows him to traverse beneath low-hanging obstacles. As with some of the later abilities found in the Mega Man X series, Beck’s dash doubles over as an attack that can be used on both ground and air, and is capable of chaining between enemies. It’s blocked-out by one of the character-description images, but it’s implied that Beck can either climb ledges, or wall jump:

Mighty No. 9 was funded via an amazingly successful Kickstarter campaign, and will release later this year for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita. Comcept recently worked on the wild Ninja Gaiden spin-off Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and is currently developing Azure Striker Gunvolt, a brand new action game for the 3DS.
