Behind the scenes with Ubisoft’s Child of Light

by GH Staff

Ubisoft is giving gamers a behind the scenes look at the creation of Child of Light, via a series of videos. The first video in the series focuses on the game’s gorgeous 2D graphical style, that Creative Director Patrick Plourde says was “inspired by the watercolor art of the golden age of illustration.”

The game’s graphical style differs dramatically from Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy franchises, and the development team likes the fact that it doesn’t look like most other games; Child of Light uses the UbiArt engine, which was previously developed for Rayman Origins. “Child of Light is a playable poem,” says Jeffrey Yohalem, the game’s writer. “It chronicles the story of a young girl growing up. It’s a coming of age story.” Players will control Aurora, a young girl who wakes up in the mystical world of Lemuria, and must find a way back home.

Child of Light features co-op, which Plourde says will allow families to share the game. Gamer’s eager to share the experience (and those that prefer to play solo) won’t have to wait much longer. Child of Light releases on April 30 on PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
