[dropcap size=dropcap]N[/dropcap]eed for Speed Rivals is one of the most expected “cross-generation” games of this year. Electronic Arts has decided to launch the new NFS Rivals at the same time for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. A question still remain: Will there be major differences between these different versions? How will they affect NFS: Rivals’ gameplay?
Craig Sullivan (creative director for the new NFS) has confirmed in an interview that the development team from Ghost Games wants to keep the gameplay similar for all editions of NFS Rivals. There will still be differences, but only in terms of graphics and effects, depending on the hardware capabilities of the specific platforms the game will be played on. According to Sullivan, the next-gen versions of NFS Rivals will bring variable meteorological conditions, dynamic lights and visible rain particles on the road and the car’s body. In short, as we all have already expecting, the graphical details will be better on the next-gen consoles. It remains to be seen however, in which of these two categories the PC version will fall.
Need for Speed: Rivals will be released on November, 19, 2013 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Extreme racing, extreme rivalry
As we may understand by just reading the title of the game, NFS Rivals will focus on rivalry between two sides: racers and police officers. As for the objectives, racers are required to earn speedpoints by doing all sorts of maneuvers and acrobatics and of course, race against each other. The more speedpoints a racer will earn, the more wanted he will be by the police cars chasing him. Policemen, however, will have to work together to place the necessary traps in order to stop the illegal racings. The player will have the initial choice to select the group he wants to compete with. Several upgrades and power-ups will be available such as turbo boost, radio jamming devices or EMP’s (for racers) and shockwaves, roadblocks or helicopters (for police officers).
NFS Rivalry, new trailer
Electronic Arts has released a new trailer for their NFS: Rivals, the latest title in the series, produced by the new studio Ghost Games. If all the previous video materials were trying to highlight the specific Need For Speed: Rivals elements, the last one is rather generic, featuring all the elements specific to the NFS series.
