On Monday, March 24, Xbox 360 users saw the launch of a dedicated Major League Gaming (MLG) app for their console, which will be available for Xbox Live Gold members in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US. Now, as detailed on Xbox Wire, both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 will be receiving more third-party apps, apps catered towards sports, movies and TV.
Aside from the MLG app for the Xbox 360, the console will will also be receiving apps from ENCORE PLAY and MOVIEPLEX PLAY for Xbox Live Gold members in the US, which are both entertainment apps for television series and movies respectively.
ENCORE PLAY and MOVIEPLEX PLAY are the latest additions to the Xbox 360’s line-up of premium networks following the launch of STARZ PLAY back in December, 2013. Both apps feature a catalog of more than 1,500 movies and additional TV episodes – such as Zero Dark Thirty, Rush Hour, Magnum P.I. and Night Court – and are both free with subscription through a participating television provider. If you like what you see after installing the apps, simply subscribe to either MOVIEPLEX or ENCORE through a participating television provider and sign into the app to access its content.
The Xbox 360 will also be receiving an EPIX app. With this app, if you happen to be a Time Warner Cable Digital Basic and Preferred TV subscriber, you’ll be able to access EPIX’s content at no extra cost through to June 18 (as an Xbox Live Gold member). By signing in with your Time Warner credentials and authenticating your app, you’ll instantly be able access the apps vast library of movies, music and more.
As for the Xbox One, an MLB.TV app will be dropping onto the console sometime this week. With an Xbox Live Gold membership, you will be able to watch Major League Baseball on your Xbox One, and be able to enjoy HD-quality video of every out-or-market season game in 2014. What’s more, each game will be archived to be viewed later if you miss a match.
An Xbox One version of the EPIX app is also in development, with further details to come at a later date.
