“Cheaters never prosper” is an idiom most of us are familiar with, and the developer of Titanfall, Respawn Entertainment, is no exception. Respawn has spoken up about cheating and enforcing bans on the PC version of the game, which may cause cheaters to think a second before busting out the aimbot.
Respawn Entertainment have taken to using FairFight to catch the cheaters within Titanfall. If the anti-cheat engine sounds familiar, it’s likely because it is the same engine that is used in Battlefield 4. Those caught cheating in either of the multiplayer shooter games don’t stand a chance.
The way to know one has been discovered for cheating can be found right in the lobby. “* FairFight: Cheat detected ” will be displayed in red letters on the right side of the screen. This is where the real fun from the evil geniuses behind Titanfall begin.
Titanfall does not suddenly become unplayable to cheaters, but instead offenders get to continue playing in a very special type of hell. Those who see the cheat detected message will be placed into a server pool consisting of other busted cheaters, and only busted cheaters. Respawn has said, “Hopefully, the aimbot cheat you paid for really is the best, or these all-cheater matches could be frustrating for you. Good luck.” One can only hope that this punishment deters future cheaters, lest they end up in the video game equivalent of a nightmare.
“If you are a non-cheater and you invite a cheater friend into a party, you will be stuck playing against cheaters. If you stop inviting your cheater friend, you will once again get to play with the non-cheater population. You do not get permanently tainted just by playing with a cheater–you are only banned for cheating you are actually cheating.” Respawn Entertainment said on Titanfall’s website.
What this means is, although this is great justice for cheaters in Titanfall, friends and fellow party members, banned or not, will also be treated as cheaters temporarily. This removes the last shred of hope that any cheater could have had in trying to swindle FairFight. It may even punish offenders socially, because it’s hard to imagine a legit player having much fun in aimbot central. Luckily, non-cheaters are free to continue enjoying a non-cheating environment when they’ve had enough of Cheaterville, so long as their cheater buddy isn’t in the same party.
Respawn also offers a helping hand to those who may feel they have been banned unjustly in Titanfall. Anyone who would like to have a banned looked at, is invited to contact anticheat@respawn.com.
The full anticheat Q&A can be found here on Titanfall’s website.
