Respawn has just announced a change in its matchmaking system.
“We have been watching the game performance and we know that there has been a problem of a lack of variety in the teams,” the company said in a report on Titanfall.com. “We are fixing that.”
The report indicates that Titanfall does use a skill system for matchmaking, and the results have been remarkably balanced.
The game uses this information to build teams. However, after a few games played, it is pretty obvious which one is better. Titanfall’s matchmaking system doesn’t do anything with this information. Players will typically just leave the game if they are getting crushed over and over again and then the process repeats itself.
The new matchmaking system will attempt to correct this. Respawn indicated that searching for teams will take a little longer with this update because the system is now prioritizing quality and fair teams over speed. The matchmaking system will also periodically split the teams up so that one team isn’t getting destroyed over and over again. The skill for a particular player will update after EACH game, so if a player dominates, he or she may be moved on to a different game against more skilled opponents. The new system seeks to end the frustration of those players having bad nights or being constantly matched with maxed-out opponents.
You can test this new system out by joining the “Improved Matchmaking Beta” channel. The system is a work in progress and Respawn asks for your patience and feedback on the matter.
