The HTC One (2013) is a uniquely designed smartphone, which is not only aesthetically appealing, but because of its two-color gamma, perfect for any style. Although the device is 5.41 x 2.69 x 0.37 inches in size, its weight is only about 143 grams and its design further enhances the ease of use with one hand. Under its casing, the device holds a powerful Quad-Core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 processor that is backed up by an Adreno 320 GPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset and 2 GB of RAM. A bit of a setback is that the device comes with Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean) and currently a KitKat software update hasn’t been announced.
Display & Sound
Its 4.7 inches Super LCD3 display is simply breathtaking. With amazing pixel density of about 469 ppi the screen of the HTC One (2013) has an overall resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. With its true to life colors and high contrast the smartphone is able to deliver an amazing multimedia experience. However, even though the device has high brightness, the glossy finish of the screen makes it a bit hard to use under poor lighting conditions. Another amazing feature of the smart device is the Beats Audio enhancement, which combined with the built-in amplifiers makes it one of the loudest smartphones on the mobile market with highest quality of sound.
Camera
Even though the primary camera of the HTC One (2013) is only a 4 MP one, due to its amazing features it is able to capture unique photos with impressive quality. However, the true power of the camera lies in its video recording features. Not only is the device able to simultaneously record HD videos and images, but the camera is able to offer video quality of either 1080p at 30FPS or 720p at 60FPS with HDR, stereo sound and video stabilization. The secondary camera on the front of the device is 2.1 MP, but can record 1080p at 30FPS videos with HDR as well, making video conferencing a true delight.
Battery Life
Even though the Li-Po 2300 mAh battery may seem as a setback at a first glance, seeing how it is a non-removable one, due to the symbiosis between the software and hardware you will be able to enjoy up to 18 hours of talk time, 12 hours of web surfing and 10 hours of extensive use. Moreover, the device is able to withstand over 480 hours in standby mode.
Overall
Even though compared with the latest smartphones and its successor the device may not be as impressive, the HTC One (2013) is simply astonishing. Even though its technology is over one year old, the overall performance of the smart device gives anything one could desire from a mobile device. Combined with its sleek and stylish visual appeal and its lowered price, the smartphone is definitely worth buying year after its release.

The newest HTC One M8 (2014) is virtually the same as its predecessor when it comes to design, with the corners being rounded a bit to further enhance the one hand ease of use and its color gamma being changed to the darker gray scale for a more stylish visual appeal. The size of the device is 5.76 x 2.78 x 0.37 inches and its weight about 160 grams, making it pretty easy to get used to hold and use with one hand.
However, under the stylish casing there are noticeable changes made to the HTC One M8 (2014). Adding to the processing power of its predecessor, the smart device features a powerful Quad-Core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 and an Adreno 330 GPU. To further boost the performance the processors are backed up by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and 2GB of RAM. Running the latest version of Android OS v4.4.2 (KitKat) the device is able to run almost every application on the official app markets as well as most of the latest high-end games.
Display & Sound
The 5.0 inch display featured on the HTC One M8 (2014) is visually as stunning and impressive as the one found on its predecessor. With the additional 0.3 inches not making that much of a difference and its glossy finish still there, the device is not visible under poor lighting conditions, but nonetheless provides with a powerful multimedia experience. A huge setback in the sound department is that the device lacks the Beats audio enhancer, but its built-in amplifiers make the quality of the sound worthy to compete with its predecessor.
Camera
Improving the quality offered by its predecessor, the camera of the HTC One M8 (2014) is pretty innovative. Featuring a dual 4 MP camera, you will be able to capture every moment of your everyday life in an amazing quality. When it comes to video recording, the device offers the same powerful features that can be seen in the last year’s version of the smartphone. An interesting improvement can be noticed in the secondary front camera. Instead of the 2.1 MP one, HTC has decided to go with a 5MP further enhancing the video conferencing experience and letting you capture unique photos with the front camera as well.
Battery Life
Although the battery featured on the HTC One M8 (2014) is a Li-Po 2600 mAh, due to the symbiosis of the software and hardware the device is able to endure over 12 hours of extensive use, which is quite impressive. You will be able to enjoy up to 20 hours of talk time in a 3G network and the smartphone is able to withstand over 496 hours in standby mode.
Overall
The HTC One M8 (2014) is definitely a huge improvement to the last year’s version of the smartphone. Even though its screen is not that much better, its processing power, camera and battery life make the smart device a worthy successor of the HTC One (2013). However, despite the overall performance being improved, when it comes to everyday use both smart devices are equal in its power. That being said, if you are not a tech geek or do not seek the latest mobile gaming experiences and applications, you should consider if the HTC One M8 (2014) is worth the few additional bucks.
