Rebellion has released a new trailer for its forthcoming action horror shooter Alien Deathstorm, offering the deepest look yet at the game since its announcement in March at the Xbox Partner Preview. The trailer, captured from the Reactor mission that will be shown at Gamescom, provides a substantial glimpse into the game’s core loop, enemy design, and survival mechanics, while also confirming a Spring 2027 release window.

The new footage positions Alien Deathstorm as a science fiction FPS where players take on the role of an Engineer sent to an off-world colony that has lost contact with Earth. The central threat is a mega-storm of apocalyptic scale that is literally tearing the planet apart, creating a dynamic and hostile environment that players must navigate while dealing with a deadly alien presence.

According to the official announcement on Xbox Wire, the trailer focuses on the Reactor mission, which occurs midway through the game. This mission requires players to fight their way inside a malfunctioning fission reactor to repair it and bring systems back online, all while contending with the alien threat and the environmental dangers of the storm.

Engineer Gameplay and Survival Tools

Rebellion is emphasizing that players are not a super soldier in Alien Deathstorm. The protagonist is an Engineer with only basic combat training, which shapes the game’s approach to combat and survival. The trailer showcases a variety of tools and weapons available to the player, including a pistol, SMG, and shotgun, with more weapons promised before launch.

The Engineer’s signature tool is a hammer, which serves a dual purpose: it can repair items within the Reactor and function as a melee weapon when enemies get too close. Beyond weapons, the game includes a suite of survival tools such as a Geiger Scanner to detect nearby threats, grenades, flares, and health injectors. Players can also find blueprints for weapon upgrades—including optics, stocks, barrels, and magazines—which can be 3D printed and attached to their weapons, adding a layer of customization and progression.

Adaptive Aliens and Mission Design

A key focus of the trailer is the alien enemy design. At Gamescom, Rebellion is revealing four types of aliens: Soldiers, Scuttlers, Blister Scuttlers, and Scuttler Swarms. These creatures are described as highly intelligent and deadly, hunting in packs and using the environment to their advantage. The developer stresses that no two playthroughs will be the same, as the aliens dynamically adapt, stalk, and attack based on the game scenario and the player’s playstyle.

The game also takes a different approach to missions and objectives, similar to Rebellion’s previous title Atomfall. Objectives in Alien Deathstorm are presented as readouts from the player’s digital assistant, named Squire, which appears to guide the player through the game’s world and tasks.

Platforms, Release Window, and Game Pass

Alien Deathstorm is confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC in Spring 2027. The game will be available on Game Pass from day one, making it accessible to subscribers at launch. The game is currently available to wishlist, allowing interested players to track its progress leading up to release.

With the Gamescom showing imminent, the new trailer sets the stage for what appears to be a survival-focused shooter that blends environmental catastrophe with intelligent, adaptive enemy AI. The emphasis on the Engineer’s vulnerability and the need to use tools creatively suggests a different kind of FPS experience from Rebellion, one that may appeal to fans of Atomfall‘s more open-ended mission structure.
