Jonathan Morin, the creative director behind Watch Dogs, has confirmed that the “Welcome to Chicago” footage was captured with a PS4 developmental kit. This recently released trailer highlights Watch Dogs’ sprawling open world, which incorporates a fantastic graphics engine that has “dynamic lighting, weather effects, and masterful physics.” “Welcome to Chicago” looks visually stunning, but excites gamers at the capabilities of the PS4 and Xbox One.
And the fact that the latest Watch Dogs Trailer used PS4 footage calms gamers after rumors that “the visual performance of the game was scaled back since its initial unveiling at E3 2012, which ran on a high-end PC.” Both Ubisoft and Jonathan Morin claimed that the rumor was utterly untrue and Morin even said that it “wasn’t a good graphics reference:” while Ubisoft Benelux PR and events manager Tessa Vilyn stated “believe me the game is not downgraded. That would just be a bit ridiculous. I saw the game it looks incredible. It looks what a next gen should look like.” But of course, a video will always speak louder than words and this latest trailer quieted all these worries, while also showing how far the game has come since its premiere at E3 in 2012. But it is important to point out that the game is not finished and Morin has confirmed that they are “still tweaking the resolution on each [platform], so nothing is final.”
On top of the wonderful graphics, the new trailer promises a massive open world with player driven content, as well as, unlimited possibilities when dealing with “each citizen who has a unique identity and acts intelligently to the world around them.” The game also promises real life consequences to what the player decides to do, who he or she helps, or how the game is played. But we shall see if Watch Dogs can deliver on all these promises when it is released on May 27th for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC. The Wii U version is not canceled and will be released at a later date.
