Square Enix has recently filed a trademark for something known as “Deus: Ex Mankind Divided”.  The trademark was filed at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, which is Europe’s trademark and design registry.  The application is currently under review, but it mentions “computer game software”, “printed matter” and “entertainment services”.

Currently, the nature of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is unknown.  However David Anfossi, the head of Eidos Montreal announced in October last year that Square Enix and Eidos would build something known as the “Deus Ex: Universe”.  Supposedly, Deus Ex: Universe will expand beyond video games into other forms of media such as books and mobile games.  With that being said, it is entirely possible that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided could fall along those lines.

For fans of the series, this doesn’t mean that there will not be a sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.  On the contrary, David Anfossi has shared concept art for an upcoming Deus Ex game.  Anfossi has described “trans-humanism segregation” as a major theme for the upcoming Deus Ex game, which is currently in development for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
