Gears of War was acquired by Microsoft a while back, which then handed development of the series from Epic Games to Black Tusk, a Microsoft studio. During an interview with Microsoft Game Studio’s Ken Lobb, he claimed that Black Tusk will be capable of making an innovative new entry in the series. The interview, conducted by Edge, asked several questions, including what Lobb thought of Black Tusk taking over development of the Gears of War IP. Lobb replied: “I actually have tons of respect for Chuck [Osieja, creative director] and all the guys up at Black Tusk. I think the reality is what we have is innovative Gears Of War. That’s what I believe they’re going to make.”
Lobb also talks about how he feels that the Gears of War IP itself is a strong place to start: “They’re an internal studio, but the reality is it’s cool to have [an IP] that can be a grand slam right out of the gate. The concepts they’ve been toying with are awesome. You take what they were thinking about and their expertise on Unreal Engine 4, because that’s what they’ve been playing with since their founding, and really go with the IP. Again, this was a mutually agreed thing. It’s not, ‘Here’s this thing you must take.’ That’s not the way Phil [Spencer] works; that’s not the way we work.”
Lobb didn’t mention anything about what platform the new Gears game would be developed for or if it would be a sequel or another prequel like Gears of War: Judgement. Many speculate that the newest Gears game will be for Xbox One, joining Halo 5 to be a big exclusive title for the One. No solid information is available at the moment regarding the new Gears of War, but you can expect to read more about it here whenever the time comes.
