New Wolfenstein Gameplay Trailer

Wolfenstein, The New Order, Alternate Timeline

As the May 20th release of Wolfenstein: The New Order approaches, more information is being released from Bethesda Softworks. The game’s biggest draw is the Doom Beta, which is available to all players who preorder Wolfenstein. But on top of this, it was announced that it would run at 1080p on the current generation consoles, as well as, have a limited Panzerhund Edition, which will not have a copy of the game. And with this flood of information and the looming release date, it is not surprising that Bethesda would release a new Wolfenstein gameplay trailer: it is called ‘Nowhere to Run’ and the preview literally starts off with a bang.

One thing is certain, Wolfenstein: The New Order is going to be a very dark and violent game. The trailer, which shows an alternate history, is full of holocaust imagery; as many know, this timeline has the Nazis winning the war and taking over the world. Now, the Wolfenstein gameplay trailer starts off in 1950 Brazil with a soccer game; and as a result of a German player being fouled, the referee (a German officer) shoots the opposing player in the face. Obviously, this is the developers having fun with history: this was most likely inspired by the infamous ‘Death Match’ that took place between Kiev and Germany. Suddenly, the trailer fast forwards to 1960 and through voiceover and visual texts it is revealed that “the Third Reich is in power, the world is enslaved, and the resistance must rise.”

Again, the rest of the trailer’s scripted scenes have intense holocaust images, including horrible human experiments that the Nazis were known for; which makes me wonder, will this very dark tone repel gamers? With that said, the very ‘loud’ gameplay shows what you expect to see in a first person shooter; and even though, players got to see gameplay footage in February’s ‘Boom Boom’ trailer, the ‘Nowhere to Run’ preview shows the advanced weaponry that Wolfenstein has become famous for. While this game is only supposed to be set in the 1960s, this alternate timeline has Mech suits, robots, and fantastically overpowered sci-fi weapons. In the end, the Wolfenstein gameplay trailer is fast, brutal, and perfectly showcases the many weapons that will be at the players’ disposal.

All this aside, Wolfenstein: The New Order will be released on May 20th and it will be on the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Now, what do you think of this new trailer?
