Peter Molyneux believes the Kinect is “a joke”

Since the Kinect launched back in 2010 on the Xbox 360, it has played host to a wealth of games, including the more commonly known Just Dance series – a prime example of how the motion sensor technology can be used. However, veteran game designer Peter Molyneux believes the device is a mere “add-on” and shouldn’t be a necessary requirement upon purchasing an Xbox One.

With the likes of such iconic and memorable games such as Fable and Populus under his belt, Molyneux’s opinion is perhaps an important one – he spoke with Edge where he firmly made his feelings towards the Kinect clear:

Maybe it’s because we’re in England, and it doesn’t really use the TV stuff, but it feels more and more like a joke. My son and I sit there saying random things at it, and it doesn’t work.

Molyneux then goes on to express his thoughts on how future Xbox One models won’t need Kinect to function:

I’m sure they’re going to release an Xbox One without Kinect. It would be unthinkable that they wouldn’t.

Since his departure from Lionhead Studies in 2012, Molyneux founded 22Cans – a collective of gaming professionals who are currently working on the much anticipated Godus. Do you agree that the Kinect is more of a joke rather than a much needed gaming peripheral – do you prefer to game without having to move or do you actually enjoy being able to dance or work out in the comfort of your own living room?
