PC gamers won’t be happy to hear that Ubisoft’s anticipated Watch Dogs will apparently require Uplay to….well, play. And that’s still the case even if you pick up the game from Steam, which is somehow odd. We were used to EA enforcing the use of Origins up until now, but this moves comes as a surprise from Ubisoft. The Steam version will be running through UPlay, and NOT Steam, so be mindful of that when purchasing. “Like some of our other AAA releases, including Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs will be available on Steam and will leverage Uplay to support the games services.” explained Ubisoft representatives in an IGN interview.
In addition, it seems the trend of high PC requirements continues. We’ve previously seen surprisingly high requirements for Monolith’s Shadow of Mordor, and Watch Dogs seems to be sharing the same fate, despite rumors of the game being tuned down visually since the first reveals several years ago. This downgrade in graphics is associated with the game’s Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, however, Ubisoft has constantly denied rumors, despite visual indications that Watch Dogs doesn’t look as good as it did in older footage and screenshots. In any case, prepare to get some upgrades if you want to enjoy Watch Dogs fully, and also be prepared to install UPlay and register for an account. Here are the requirements:
