Fans of the legendary TV series and blockbuster big-screen adaptation Star Trek haven’t gotten their hands on a game set in the universe in a long time. This is about to change, as developer Disruptor Beam has announced that it is working on a future strategy RPG set in the Star Trek universe, entitled Star Trek Timelines. While this game seems to be still early in development, Star Trek Timelines appears to be coming exclusively to mobile platforms for the time being. The developers are aiming to provide a quality experience for tablets and smartphones (most likely Android and iOS-based) that captures the essence of the TV show.
In Star Trek Timelines, players will be able to explore various parts of the galaxy while controlling famous characters such as Kirk, Spock, Picard or Data. This would suggest the game mixes multiple Star Trek time-lines, so we’re curious to see how Disruptor Beam pulls that off successfully.
“We want to create a new generation of strategy game for tablet and mobile devices and one that is as large and deep as the Star Trek universe itself. I grew up watching the franchise and have always felt that the best episodes were those that went beyond the coolness of the technology or vastness of space; the ones which told the story of characters making important decisions that had an impact on others, on civilizations, planets, and technology.” explained the CEO of the developer company, Jon Radoff. “Star Trek Timelines will encompass all of these concepts, allowing you to explore the vastness of space along with your friends–letting you live out the ‘where no man has gone before’ mantra we all love–but will also allow you to make decisions that impact your future, your friends and even the fate of the Galaxy.” he continued.
Star Trek Timelines will be a story-driven game based on social interaction. Players will be able to build their own ship and crew, and there will be references and content from the original Star Trek series, Voyager, Enterprise, Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. That’s quite a multiverse in the making right there. Timelines will be rendered fully in 3D, so expect it to be quite taxing on your mobile device’s hardware. There’s no indication about voice acting at this point, but it’s doubtful the original cast members will be reprising any roles. Being early in development, you can expect Star Trek Timelines to arrive sometime in 2015.
