Xbox One’s April Update is now available, brings multiple improvements

by GH Staff

Microsoft is consistently releasing firmware updates for the Xbox One, and we frankly can’t complain. There are multiple features that still need improving, and we’ve certainly seen a great deal of updates over the last months. April makes no exception, and the latest patch for the Xbox One is now available for downloading. It brings multiple adjustments and improvements, and while none are life-changing by themselves, they do contribute in making the console better. Here’s what you can expect in the latest Xbox One patch:

  • Most importantly, the user interface will be getting tweaked, and will now show you progress bars on your game saves, helping you keep better track of what status your game saves are in. The changes also introduce an improved update-tracker, which will now display what games are currently being updated on your Xbox One or have been recently patched;
  • More improvements to the friends-list are included, with the notable addition of a status tracker. You’ll now be able to see when your friends come online, check out their most popular apps and see if they are playing games in multiplayer. This was an extremely requested feature that Microsoft simply had to include, and the system works similarly to Steam’s friends tracker now. It’s a definite improvement.
  • Tweaks to how well the Kinect works have been introduced. Voice commands and motion detection have been refined, and while the system is still nowhere near perfection, we’re seeing the Xbox One’s sensor progressing in the right direction. Expect even more fine-tuning to the Kinect in the future.
  • DVR compression is getting buffed up, and we’re also getting 50 Hz Blu-Ray support. In addition, firmware updates to controllers and headsets are included, especially reducing background noise, static buzzing and other unpleasant effects from headsets.

The update isn’t particularly huge, so it shouldn’t take long for you to patch up the Xbox One and enjoy the new features. Granted, there are still many aspects that need work, but the Xbox One is getting the needed attention, and that can’t be a bad thing. The update is now live and available, so boot up your Xbox One and enjoy.
