Destiny’s Shipping Still Close, Unaffected By O’Donnell’s Departure

Bungie has come forth to say that Destiny is still “close to shipping”, with its development still on track regardless of the departure of composer Marty O’Donnell. Earlier this week, Marty O’Donnell was fired from Bungie without any given reason, despite his work on Destiny and Halo titles in the past. Bungie’s COO Pete Parsons spoke to Eurogamer at Bungie’s Bellevue, Washington headquarters, stating that all is proceeding as planned and that Marty’s music will still be featured in the game.

“I think the Bungie fanbase is going to look forward to hearing Marty’s music, Mike Salvatori’s music, C. Paul’s music and Paul McCartney’s music in the game,” Parsons said, regarding Destiny. “That’s going to be exciting for people. It’s going to be a great, fantastic experience.” “I believe people will be transported not just by the activities and the stories within the Destiny universe but by the sights and the wonderful sounds and music,” Parsons says, praising Destiny’s soundtrack.

Parsons hasn’t mentioned anything to do with why Marty was let go by Bungie but he makes it clear that the game is nearly finished, so even without Marty the game can still go forward. “We have a fantastic team. We’re pretty close to shipping. There’s a lot of polish left to do, lots of tweaking and tuning, but a lot is already complete.”, Parsons said.

It’s good to know that Destiny will be unaffected by O’Donnell’s departure, but it’s such a shame to see him leave after all the years he’s spent with Bungie. Destiny is launching on September 9 2014 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3.
