New GRID game to bare the name Autosport, trailer and release date revealed

Racing fans, rejoice. Codemasters is back with a sequel to the GRID franchise, and this new entry will bare the name of GRID: Autosport. Codemasters has been silent about what exactly it was working on this year, but it did promise multiple racing games for 2014 previously, and it seems to be delivering. Although it’s not the Dirt sequel fans have been begging for, a GRID game is nothing to shy away from either.

Codemasters wasn’t beyond admitting to mistakes, and the developers acknowledge that some bad decisions were made with GRID 2. GRID Autosport is going back to the roots of the series, focusing on a true driving experience and less on the narrative side. Expect driving and handling to be more realistic this time around, and a lot of work has gone into the mechanics behind the handling. “ For GRID Autosport we’ve gone back to a more authentic handling style. It’s definitely not a full simulation – we want it to be authentic, not clinical – but it’s more towards that end of the spectrum than before.” reads Codemaster’s official blog post, revealing details about the game.

Multiple racing disciplines will be included in GRID Autosport, with differences in how you need to drive and what cars you get to drive (or, rather, should drive for optimal results). Some of the featured disciplines include Touring Cars, Endurance competitions, Open-Wheel races and, as seen in the trailer, drift races. GRID Autosport will greatly expand upon location diversity too, including over 22 locations in combinations that should provide more than enough diversity for even the most demanding of racers.

Last but not least, a lot of focus goes towards the multiplayer experience too. Where’s the fun in a racing game if you’re constantly up against the AI? Codemasters knows this, so expect a really competitive and well designed multiplayer mode in GRID Autosport. You can join racing teams and compete against other teams. New challenges will come to the game each week, ensuring you won’t be bored and you won’t be running out of things to do. And of course, being competitive means having a leaderboard, something that’s also included. Overall, we can expect loads of fun with GRID Autosport, The game is set for a June 24-27 release on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3, and pre-ordering will grant you the limited edition Black Edition, which grants access to the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Coupe.

Excited about the game?
