Well it looks like Kick-Ass 2 is getting a movie based game that no one asked for. Kick-Ass 2 was released last August to negative reviews and a disappointing box office: the movie was able to surpass its $28 million production budget with its worldwide gross, but it was still seen as a letdown by the studio. But almost a year later, the Kick-Ass 2 game trailer has premiered and it appears that players can now relive a very mediocre movie on their PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Now even though the trailer states ‘coming soon,’ IGN was given a release date of May 2014; which means that this game’s release is ‘right around the corner.’ Also, this thirty second teaser reveals the first glimpse of gameplay, which seems as repetitive and clunky as the original Kick-Ass game. When I attempted to do more research I found Kick-Ass 2: The Game’s Facebook page, which reveals exclusive screenshots and a brief description. But it is important to point out that this Facebook page has not been updated since February; however, the page was established by the publisher UIG Entertainment and did have gameplay photos that matched the footage of the trailer. But I was unable to clarify the page through the developer’s website because Freedom Factory Studios’ site is currently under construction. With that said, if the Facebook page is real then it looks like the player will be able to play alongside characters from the movie: such as Doctor Gravity or Mother Russia.
Again, the Kick-Ass 2 game was developed by Freedom Factory Studios, which is the team behind the critically panned Young Justice: Legacy. Their press release calls it “a classic beat-em-up featuring brutal finishing moves and animations straight from the movie and comic-book.” Either way, it looks like an updated version of the horrid original Kick-Ass game, which does not bode well for the quality of the sequel.
