Arma 3 development road-map reveals 2015 expansion

by GH Staff

Bohemia Interactive’s Arma 3 will not appeal to every FPS fan out there, that’s a given. In fact, the same can be said about the entire series. Arma 3’s launch was controversial, some players appreciating the infinite potential of the military simulator, while others complained about a generally unpolished product that still needed lots of work. Both statements are equally true. Arma 3 does indeed have untapped potential, and might evolve to incredible heights due to great mod support and complexity, but the road ahead is long and treacherous.

That being said, Bohemia Interactive is in it for the long run. The company isn’t known for pushing out cash-grab titles on a yearly basis. Arma 3 will be a work in progress for several years to come. To fund the development process, Bohemia will be relying on DLCs, but not in an intrusive way. As stated before, the game thrives through mods. As such, content from the company will be paid for, but features introduced will be free. What you can expect in the coming weeks, months or even years are the following:

  • Improved modding support and improved platform for mods
  • Bootcamp – A new mode for the game that aims to introduce new players to the complex and hard-to-master world of Arma 3
  • Helicopters – Both new transport helicopters and new flight mechanics to be included
  • New vehicles and weapons

In addition, Bohemia is planning a massive expansion-pack for 2015. This is still under development, and BI explained that it was currently experimenting and testing new waters. What exactly the expansion will bring to the game remains to be seen, but we’re eager to see Arma 3 evolve. You can read more about it in Bohemia’s official road-map for Arma 3. It might still be buggy, and it’s hard to learn and rough on newcomers, but the truth is, Arma 3 is a refreshing alternative to more mainstream titles such as Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. If you’re playing Arma 3, what are you hoping to see in the future?
