Destiny’s new trailer reveals armors and weapons

Worried about how varied your arsenal will be in Bungie’s upcoming MMOFPS Destiny? Fear not, it seems you’ll be having quite the variety at your disposal when it comes down to what you’re shooting with and what you’re wearing to keep bullets out! A new trailer for Destiny explains how the game’s loot system works, what weapons you’ll be able to use, how they are categorized, and of course how good you’ll be looking based on your level and gear.

The Loot system is tailored to each individual player and class. You won’t be fighting your team members over who’s getting what, instead, you’ll have tailored drops just for you. You’re relying on rockets to blast through enemy lines? No problem, aliens will drop tons of ammo for your specific weapon so you can keep the mayhem going. Speaking about causing mayhem, weapons are plentiful and categorized into 3 distinct groups: primary (your standard hand-cannon or assault rifle), special (weapons that you use in certain situations, like sniper rifles or shotguns) and heavy weapons (which are pretty self-explanatory, meaning anything from rocket launchers to miniguns).

Of course, each category has a wide variety of its own, so you’ll have to dig in and see what you like, and develop a setup that works for you. It’s no Loadout in terms of options, but there are plentiful, and Bungie reassures us that it’s the largest arsenal it has ever developed. In addition, weapons are designed in-house extensively in order to make sure each firearm is lore-friendly and fits with the game’s story and atmosphere.

As for armor, it will start off as you’d expect in any MMO, with bland, unimpressive outfits at low levels, but with beautifully designed elaborate pieces that not only keep you out of harm’s way, but make a fashion statement. This is not uncommon in MMORPGs, but since Destiny is an MMOFPS, it’s definitely nice to see that looks still matter (even though it’s mostly your friends that will get to see how good or bad you look).

The trailer also shows off some impressive gameplay, and does a great job at building up hype, which let’s face it, was high enough already. The only personal problem I have with Destiny is the fact that there’s little hope it will be coming out on the PC any time soon. For now, the game is limited to the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. There’s no way to go around it, I guess PC gamers have one more reason to consider picking up a console. Destiny will be launching on the 9th of September 2014.
