Best 5 Free Android Games

by GH Staff

Mobile technology has been evolving at a breathtaking pace, and by now, we have smartphones as strong as some of the older consoles. Thus, quality gaming is now possible on Android just as it is possible on your home TV screen or your PC. There are numerous choices when it comes to the very best Android games, and we round up some of the best currently available free games. Our top 5 will include both demanding games that are recommended for the newest smartphones, as well as older, more casual games that pretty much anyone with an Android phone can run.

There’s little to be said about this particular game. It’s so popular, everyone has heard about it, and it’s not the frustrating kind of popularity either (yes Flappy Birds, we’re looking at you). Plants vs Zombies 2 may seem easy and casual at first, but don’t be fooled, it gets very hard, very fast. The premise is simple: protect your virtual lawn from weirdly dressed zombies using, you guessed it, plants! It’s a strategy game reminiscent of old Tower Defense modes for Warcraft 3, and will test both your mental capabilities as well as your reflexes and reaction times.

Dead Trigger 2 is a game suited best for higher end mobile phones and tablets, as the game’s graphics are frankly top-notch. It’s a first person shooter optimized perfectly for touch-screen interaction, and brings the familiar gameplay of some PC or console classics into your hands. Dead Trigger 2 is engaging, and shooting zombies can be addictive and fun. In addition, the game features a complex crafting and progression mode that is not hindered by payment walls. In fact, Dead Trigger 2 is one of the least money-hungry games we’ve seen, and the premium currency is only used for speeding up crafting upgrade times. All-in-all, Dead Trigger 2 should satisfy the most demanding of action game fans.

Rovio’s original concept has grown tremendously over the years. Few versions are as popular and addictive as Angry Birds: Star Wars 2, a remastered version of the original Angry Birds game set in the Star Wars universe. It’s funny, memorable, catchy and challenging. Of course, take the game with a grain of salt. While it’s centered around the Star Wars theme, it’s still an Angry Birds game, so don’t expect a lore-friendly storyline. It’s great fun though, and the various new abilities and tools make it that much more engaging. It also works rather well on older smartphones, so give it a try.

This particular game isn’t centered around realism of any sort. It’s as arcade as racing games can get, but that’s not a bad thing when we’re talking about Android games. It looks amazing, is engaging to play, and sounds great. In fact, it’s one of the best looking and best sounding (seriously, the soundtrack rocks) games available on Android. Other than that, it’s fast-paced, features multiple game modes including a lengthy singleplayer campaign, and provides you with various out of proportion tools to send your car racing…through the air!

Dots-android

Perhaps the most simplistic (apparently) game on our list, Dots is a free Android game anyone can enjoy. Graphics are irrelevant for this game, since it’s a puzzle and mind-game that doesn’t rely on fancy visuals to make a statement. The principle is simple – you need to connect dots within a given time-frame or through limited moves. The game is fun, engaging and puts your brain cells to work. It even has multiplayer support should you feel a need to impress your friends.
