Turns out that the leaked rumor in late March that alluded to Far Cry 4‘s location in the mountainous Himalayas was correct. While we reported on that rumor, official news from Ubisoft had not yet been released for the upcoming sequel to the Far Cry series. As of today, that has changed: Ubisoft has given Far Cry 4 confirmation for the region as well as an expected release date set later this year. We’ll be hopefully receiving the first-person shooter on November 18. Giving us just enough time to get through E3 2014 as well as some of the competitive releases that’ll be on Far Cry 4‘s tail. Ubisoft commented on their official blog earlier this morning about the release, as well as what developments the franchise would be constructing for the forthcoming launch.
Ubisoft also was able to offer some details on which consoles the action-adventure game would be accessible on. As of now, Far Cry 4 will become accessible on both generations of consoles – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – and of course, Windows PC.
Kyrat is described as being an “untamed region,” and an unique step away from the expected jungle that was so iconic of Far Cry 3. The self-appointed king of Kyrat has fairly little, or is absolutely voided of merciful intent, as Ubisoft describes his character as being “despotic” at best. “Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” commented Dan Hay on the Ubisoft blog. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.” He concluded, confident that Kyrat in Far Cry 4 will weave itself in player’s hearts as being different from its predecessors.
But that isn’t all, and of course it wouldn’t be given the released information so close to this year’s gaming conference. Ubisoft reassured that Far Cry 4 will be receiving more details, and subsequently some brand new content at E3 2014. “For an exclusive first look at Far Cry 4, be sure to tune in to Ubisoft’s media briefing at E3,” Ubisoft implies; alluding to the fact that there’ll be some additional goodies as June draws ever closer. But chances are, the game developers of Far Cry 4 have taken a monumental risk in adjusting the setting as well as tweaking some of the gameplay alongside it’s regional shift. Will it be enough to stand up to the overwhelming success of the previous installments?
Chances are that multiple sources have their own opinion, but as of late it seems that the gaming community has embraced the idea of something “new” from Far Cry 4. We’ll keep you updated on all the information concerning Far Cry 4‘s development and eventual release. Feel free to leave a comment with your personal insight on the sequel’s development, or perhaps what it is that could make the experience more memorable as an enthusiast of the Far Cry series.
