More and more rumors are emerging about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, making us that much more interested in the upcoming device. Thus, it’s hard to focus on the Note 3, which by all reports is doing extremely well in terms of sales. In light of these things, should you be buying the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 now, or should you wait a bit longer and pick up the Galaxy Note 4?
Design
The Galaxy Note 3 is a great phablet, but let’s face it, it’s not particularly attractive. Not that it looks bad, but it certainly does not stand out. The Galaxy Note 4 will feature a new design, and this much has been confirmed by Senior VP of Samsun, Mr. Yoon Han-kil. There’s a high chance that the Galaxy Note 4 will feature dust and water resistance, a certification to go along with it and a trimmed down design, making it lighter and thinner.
Display
Samsung has been tackling with new display technology for a long time now, but so far hasn’t introduced it into any of its devices. It’s likely that the Galaxy Note 4 will be the launching-pad for a possibly bent phone. Recent leaps in Graphene technology don’t rule out the possibility of that becoming the basis for the display. Don’t expect the size to get any bigger, the Note 3 already sports a large enough display. The Note 4 will likely settle somewhere betweeen 5 and 5.5 inches, the huge improvements coming in the shape of PPI ratios and clarity.
Camera
The Galaxy S5 has seen huge improvements in Samsung’s smartphone photography department, and while it’s still not known for the best possible sensors on the market, it’s definitely closing the gap fast. The Galaxy Note 4 will most likely have slight improvements over the Galaxy S5’s camera, which is already far superior to what we’ve seen in the Note 3.
Hardware
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will feature top of the line hardware. That’s not even down to rumors, it’s more akin to common sense. We’ve never seen Samsung step back in terms of hardware capabilities when it comes to its flagship phones, and it’s doubtful it will do so with the next Note. Granted, there are no huge leaps to be made with the currently available tech, but rumors suggest the Note 4 will feature 4 GB of RAM and it’s likely to include a tweaked 801 Snapdragon quad-core CPU.
Battery
This is one of the trickier parts. The Galaxy Note 3 had a good batter hidden within, but the phone is also power-hungry, in part due to the large screen size. If the Galaxy Note 4 truly wishes to blow people away, it needs to provide exceptional battery life when compared to the competition. Unfortunately, no solid info has been given about what exact battery will be used, but expect an upgrade nonetheless.
Overall
The Galaxy Note 3 is a solid buy. If you don’t want to wait around, either pick that up, or go for the newer Samsung Galaxy S5. If you can afford to wait awhile longer though, it would be wise to post-pone your shopping list until September or October. There’s little doubt this will be the time-frame for the Galaxy Note 4’s release, and with Black Friday following shortly after, you might even pick up a great deal. Furthermore, if you’re on a budget, it’s important to keep in mind that once the Note 4 hits the shelves, the Note 3 will get significant price cuts. Waiting seems like a smart option now. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 promises to improve almost all aspects of the Note 3, and will likely surpass the Galaxy S5 in many ways. A new display type is the most exciting feature, one that we really want to see.
