In a surprise announcement, 343 Industries reveals that the next Halo game is called Halo 5: Guardians and will be released in 2015 for Xbox One. Speaking on Xbox Wire, 343 Industries’ General Manager Bonnie Ross talks about how Halo is a core series for the Xbox platform and how the team aims to take this game to the next level.
In the past, “Halo” games have pushed the Xbox forward, showcasing the console and its ecosystem in entertaining and innovative ways. Making a “Halo” game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial. It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the “Halo” game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.
Halo 5: Guardians will retain the core gameplay elements of the Halo series but will also increase the scale, content and scope of the game with the Xbox One’s hardware. The game’s launch in 2015 will also coincide with the Halo television series, a standalone series that is being collaborated with Steven Spielberg.
Fans wondering why the game wouldn’t release this year, considering the mentions of the ‘Halo journey starting in 2014’, Ross clarifies with this statement: “I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step.” 343 promises to reveal more at Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference on June 9. We can’t wait to find out more when the time comes. Take a look at the box art for Halo 5: Guardians below.
