Gaijin Entertainment released a new video on Thursday, May 15, revealing new planes, a few tweaks to the visual effects and a few other additions to its free-to-play World War II-themed realistic combat flight simulator War Thunder. It’s biggest reveal, however, is the announcement of the long awaited “Ground Forces” expansion now entertaining open Beta.
For now, Ground Forces will take place primary in tank-vs-tank gamemodes, although some aircraft may be added to these gamemodes for testing purposes. Players will kick off Ground Forces with armored vehicles for the USSR and Germany, will have a selection of famous tank varieties.
As for the new aircraft, some of the factions that are available in the game – Soviet, US, Germany and Britain – receive new planes to fly around in, and with each new plane comes a couple of new customization options regarding weaponry and the aircraft’s engine. The other faction, Japan, will receive an updated cockpit view for its Ki-45 heavy fighters.
As part of its second tier of available aircraft, the Soviets receives a 34 series Mig-3 with an AM-35A engine and a 2x 20mm shVAK cannon. As part of its fourth tier, the Soviets also have two new fighters: the IL-10 attacker and the I-185 fighter with an M-71 engine and a 3x 20mm shVAK cannon.
The US’s third tier sees to the introduction of the multipurpose PBJ-1H and PBJ-1J aircraft. Not only carrying a bomb payload, but they also have a selection of the 12x 12.7mm Browning machine gun or the 75mm M-4 cannon.
Germany receives two new jet fighters in its fifth tier: the Me 262 A-1u4, with a 50mm Mk.241a cannon; and the Me 262 C-2b, which has hybrid engines.
Lastly, Britain will have three new fighters in its fourth tier: the Spitfire F Mk.14E, Mk. 18E and the premium Mk.14C.
