Game director Dana Jan has spoke with Computer And Video Games, in which she discusses the storyline within The Order: 1886. Announced in 2013 at E3, the game was revealed as an action-adventure that fusions both the Victorian age with modern day technology. The game takes place in London, in which an alternative history is played out involving a group of knights who’s mission is to maintain order in a world populated with half breed monsters.
Jan says that the game, specifically its storyline, will “raise some eyebrows“, going on to talk about how players will be surprised by some of the features they might not expect in the action genre, as follows: “There are some things that people are going to be surprised by – things that you might not necessarily expect from an action game,”
Speaking on behalf of Ready at Dawn, the studio behind development on the game, Jan speaks on how a game’s storyline should be a high priority: “We love games, but we also love telling stories, so I think story is always going to be at the top because it’s what we start with. It’s at the top of the pyramid and everything else supports that. I think it’d be more challenging to make a game for the gameplay’s sake, then try to make a story that fits in there.“
Although the game has recently been delayed until early 2015, Jan is optimistic on a possible second game: “There’s so much there to explore, and should we get the blessing to have a second game we’d love to expand upon this universe and keep going.” Perhaps Ready at Dawn are already planning to make The Order a whole series of games as opposed to just the one. The Order: 1886 is a PS4 exclusive and shows no signs of making a move to other systems any time soon.
