Mythic Entertainment

Developer Mythic Entertainment, known for Warhammer Online and Dungeon Keeper, has been shut down today by EA. EA stated that they will “shift mobile development focus in other areas.” Mythic Entertainment was originally established in 1995, and was purchased by EA in 2006. Mythic developed several games including Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. The studio also worked on Warhammer Online:Age Of Reckoning, however that project was cancelled in December. Mythic released a remake of Dungeon Keeper last year for mobile devices, but the game was met with negative reviews. It would be interesting to see how Mythic Entertainment would have fared had they not been purchased by EA.

We’re not sure what the future holds for EA and their mobile department. In recent years EA has been met with overwhelming negative views and was rated “Worst Company in America” for 2 years. EA has been criticized by many for their micro-transactions, which is something that has become a major staple in the mobile games market. Many apps on mobile devices include micro-transactions, and EA is just one of many companies that use them to their advantage to gain another dollar here and there. What is EA’s master plan for the mobile market, and how do they plan on shifting their focus? Only time will tell if their future endeavors will succeed.
