After several tweets teasing the return of the brutal fighting franchise, NetherRealm Studios finally unveils Mortal Kombat X (10). While the previous game, Mortal Kombat 9, was simply called ‘Mortal Kombat’, this title will once again have a number. This could also mean that it’s a sequel to the events of MK9.
A trailer was released, showing a CGI battle between series veteran characters Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The fight between them showcases several of their signature moves and hints at the return of the ‘X-Ray’ super moves introduced in Mortal Kombat 9. The trailer ends with a title card that says ‘Coming 2015’, signalling a release next year. Warner Bros has confirmed that MKX will be on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Take a look at the new trailer below.
So what do you think? NetherRealm Studios can definitely take this series even further with next gen technology. MK9 was an amazing step in the right direction for the series, re-invigorating the mechanics and pumping up the competitive scene. A new MK game will be a great way to continue this trend and prove that one of gaming’s oldest fighting game franchises still has the right stuff.
