After recent uncertainties about the Splinter Cell movie, it seems that director Doug Liman and actor Tom Hardy are busy working on the script. The movie was supposed to start filming in August, however, previously unknown delays has pushed the start date back. And while promoting his latest film, Edge of Tomorrow, Doug Liman discussed the pre-production process that has forced the studio to reconsider their original start date.
“I’m working on the script with Tom Hardy, I think we have a great take on how to make an awesome film out of that. Everything about Splinter Cell will be younger. It’s a chance to come up with a new franchise that is fresher and newer and younger, and Tom Hardy is such an incredible actor.”
Since, Tom Hardy is too young to play the older Sam Fisher, I assumed that they would attempt to make the character younger or perhaps do a ‘sort of’ prequel. But there is no indication of how they will introduce this iteration of the famous spy; if both Hardy and Liman are working on the script, I have faith that they will do the hero justice. With that said, fans have been wondering if the director will use elements from the game, including the iconic ‘Multi-Vision Goggles.’
“Some of the tropes of the game will for sure be in the film, but also the fun of that is when you lose them. To strip that stuff away and really make the character have to operate without it. “
The Splinter Cell Movie is still scheduled to be released in 2015; the studio will likely set a release date once they officially start shooting. As previously reported, Doug Liman will produce the project with “Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and Jean-Julien Baronnet of Ubisoft Motion Pictures:” New Regency Enterprises will handle the distribution.
