The rumors about the upcoming Android KitKat 4.4.3 update were starting to diminish over the last few weeks, as we’ve heard nothing new about the said update for a long time. Rumored to be released early this summer, there were no indications that this would actually happen in the coming months, if at all. In fact, speculation about the cancellation of the 4.4.3 update actually started to spread.
Well, we can lay those fears to rest. The KitKat 4.4.3 update has now been confirmed by several sources. T-Mobile announced yesterday that several Nexus devices will be getting the Android KitKat 4.4.3 update, including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. This confirms the rumors initiated by Sprint back in April, rumors that seemed unfounded up until now. If that wasn’t enough, Google also confirmed the update, extending it to the Nexus 10.
The update will be gradually rolling out on more and more devices in the coming days and weeks, depending on mobile device, carrier and location. The Android 4.4.3 KitKat update aims to right a lot of the issues found in the 4.4.2 version, so it’s understandable why so many people are eagerly awaiting. The so far unconfirmed (but almost guaranteed) and upcoming Nexus 8 will most likely be launching with 4.4.3 pre-installed. We know little about the device, but it’s most likely coming, and should be revealed in the coming months.
As for other smartphones getting the Android KitKat 4.4.3 update, there’s no solid information yet. Manufacturers will tailor the update to their own devices, and this will take time. It’s reasonable to assume that flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8 will however support it soon, and perhaps upcoming releases, such as the LG G3, will come with the new version out of the box. Until then, if you’re the owner of a Nexus mobile device, you’re in great luck!
