The Legend of Zelda Fails LEGO Ideas Winter 2014

As reported by Kotaku on Tuesday, June 3, a campaign to bring a Legend of Zelda LEGO set into the world has failed approval to become an official LEGO product following the final results of 2014’s LEGO Ideas winter review.

The purpose of LEGO Ideas, and subsequently the LEGO review board, is to appraise LEGO projects submitted to once said projects have reached 10,000 supporters. Upon reaching this milestone, the projects are then evaluated and investigated and rigorously tested to standards put on official LEGO products before being approved for mass production. Out of all the projects that reach 10,000 supporters for the period of review, only one will officially be approved.

The campaign’s creator, Wes Talbott, submitted his project to LEGO Ideas back in late-December, 2012. Over the course the next year, the project reached 10,000 supporters by November, 2013, and was when whisked off to LEGO Ideas’ review board. His project, entitled “Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter“, was one of six other finalists for the Winter 2014 Review and one for the Fall 2o14 Review: Sherlock, Back to the Future, Adventure Time, Macross (Robotech), a Japanese Old Style Architecture project; and a Female Minifigure Set.

Despite reaching 10,000 supporters, Talbott’s LEGO The Legend of Zelda project ultimately was not approved by the board. Out of all eight projects, it was the one from the Fall Review that was approved: the Female Minifigure Set, now titled “Research Institute”. Whilst pricing and final designs are still underway, the set is slated to release next month in August, 2014.

We’re very excited to release Ellen Kooijman’s Female Minifigure set, featuring 3 scientists, now entitled ‘Research Institute’ as our next LEGO Ideas set,” LEGO Ideas’ Frederikke Hoff announced. “This awesome model is an inspiring set that offers a lot for kids as well as adults. The final design, pricing and availability are still being worked out, but it’s on track to be released August 2014, so keep an eye out!
