With E3 just days away, new games and properties have been revealed on almost a daily basis- some from official press releases, and others through information leaks. One such leak revealed that a new Battlefield title is currently in-development at Visceral Games, the creators of Dante’s Inferno and the Dead Space saga. While Battlefield 2142 was a sci-fi take on the series, Battlefield Hardline will take the popular FPS franchise into more uncharted waters, as the upcoming title will feature themes of law enforcement.
Shortly after a gameplay trailer was leaked online, a representative from Visceral stated that the footage shown for Battlefield Hardline was actually several months old. While gameplay footage is increasingly more difficult to find, the initial trailer shed light on a few modes planned for the police-based shooter. “Omaha” will be the single-player campaign, and will follow a lone Miami officer as he takes on the criminal underground and police corruption. Four multiplayer modes were briefly shown, each one containing a “cops VS robbers” motif. The original trailer showcased Battlefield Hardline running on a PS4, utilizing the Frostbite 3 engine found in DICE’s Battlefield 4.
According to a new report from IGN, those who registered to attend one of Sony’s E3 Experience Event locations will receive a Beta invite for the PS4 version of Battlefield Hardline. The E3 Experience Event will stream to select theaters across North America, and will include extra interviews, developer discussions, and gameplay footage not shown during Sony’s official E3 press conference. It has not been confirmed if a Beta will be available for the other consoles and PC, however more information regarding Battlefield Hardline will be revealed on June 9. Hardline is one of six new games that EA plans to reveal at E3 2014, two of which will be Mirror’s Edge 2 and a new title from Criterion Games.
